The first time I was really exposed to entrepreneurship was
when I was about 9 years old. My friends lived on a golf course, which was
separated from their yards by a pond.
Every day we hung out we would go in the yard to try and find a few golf
balls, so slowly we collected enough golf balls to fill entire 5-10 gallon
buckets. One day we were all riding
bikes and one of the neighbors came out on a brand new bike, complete with pegs
on both wheels. Instantly we knew we all
wanted to get pegs too but our parents didn’t see the point in spending money
on something that essentially makes your bike more dangerous. That’s when we put on our entrepreneurial hats
and saw that we had an abundance of golf balls, why not try to sell them? We
sold three buckets for 30 dollars on the side of the golf-cart path and we soon
found ourselves in possession of a whole 90 dollars; we were the richest kids
on the block. We bought our pegs and cruised the streets of our neighborhood in
style until one day one of my pegs got stuck in my friend’s wheel. That’s one of the moments we realized, “maybe
our parents are smarter than we are.”
The main reason I took this class is because I know that in
order to one day be able to open my own business, I will need to fully
understand what it means to be an entrepreneur.
I hope to be able to talk to entrepreneurs who have already started
their businesses and hear about their experiences; what to do and what not to
do. I am also excited about the prospect
of working with other students who share an entrepreneurial mindset, as it is
so common to see students become less and less willing to take risks in
college.

I too admire your creativeness with the opportunity that you guys had by being so close to the golf course. I too look forward to being in a class filled with other students that are not afraid to think outside of the box and take risks.
