Something that really stood out to me about this weeks
reading in general is how complex marketing really is. I really do think that having someone who
specializes in marketing as a founding member of the entrepreneurial venture is
extremely important as it can become very overwhelming for someone who is
trying to run the business as a whole and develop the actual product or
service. Although when we think of
marketing we think of the TV ads and internet ads we often see, there is a
great deal of research that goes on behind the scenes so that advertisements
are most effective.
The portion I somewhat disagree with the author on is the
social media marketing section. I have never been one to use social media much
and although I do understand its wide reach, I think it should be secondary to
local marketing. Although it might be
good to have one to just show basic information or relay people to a main
website, I think having a basic website is more important for if people just
google your company.
The section that most confused me is probably the section
titled “Final Considerations for Entrepreneurs”. This section seemed unnecessary as all it did
was repeat exactly what was talked about in the previous sections.
I would ask the author; to what degree should an
entrepreneur make sure their service or product sell itself? Sometimes marketing is successful because of
an out of the box idea, how much of marketing is creativity?
